Pehea'oe? Hou'oli au! Hou'oli aloha ka poalua! How are you? I am happy! Happy Aloha Tuesday!
I am now almost finished up 2 months seizure free and I am so happy that 2 of the 4 tests I have had so far have come back clear of anything bad. I have 2 more tests to do before I am cleared to go back to delivering the mail (I now miss the daily exercise). YAY!!! You may also notice that this newsletter has changed names. It is no longer The Aloha Tuesday Newsletter and will be a Tuesday Kanikapila reminder only. My newsletter will now be published every Friday instead of Tuesday. The first edition of Pirate Jim's Aloha Friday Newsletter will be released this Friday July 28, 2017. All the newsletter information and narrative personal updates will be in this Friday newsletter. I will also be including a weekly video of the newsletter information and a possible future podcast. Every Friday you will watch stories about ukuleles, ukulele history, play along songs, interesting facts about the things I enjoy, updates on my Pirate Jim projects, and more. All these things will be posted on my youtube channel and links will be distributed through all social media channels I post on.
So see you again here and on Youtube this Friday!!!

Aloha kakou!
Pehea'oe? How are you? Happy Lei Day! Yes, I am a day late, but I am pretending that today is still May 1. For those that don't know, May 1 is a special day in Hawaii. May 1 is Lei Day!
“May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii Nei.” This popular phrase in the islands prevents anyone from forgetting this special day. It was Don Blanding, a writer and poet, who first suggested that a holiday should be dedicated to the beautiful Hawaiian tradition of making and wearing lei. But it was Grace Tower Warren, also a writer, who came up with the idea that the holiday should coincide with May Day. And so since the first Lei Day on May 1, 1928, Hawaii has continued the annual celebration to this very day. - https://www.hawaii.com/discover/may-day-in-hawaii/

Pehea'oe? How are you? Maika'i au! I am good. I hope you are well also.
As you can tell by looking at the date on the calendar that today is the last day of The Ho'okipa Project fundraising campaign on Kickstarter. Unfortunately, we have not met our funding goal and I do not think we will meet it by the deadline at 11:59 MST tonight. Do Not Worry!!!!! It's only the Kickstarter campaign that ends tonight... Hope is not lost! I have moved the entire project to my website and we are going to start again. You can currently go to the website and donate any amount to the project you feel you can afford.
Check it out:
I know, some of you may be thinking that this Kickstarter campaign was a failure, but in fact, it was a great success! Putting together the campaign actually kickstarted the original idea behind the project and has now found it's true meaning. It has inspired a bunch of people to come together for one goal with many different paths leading to it, but I haven't done enough to explain to you why! So we are going to change things a little.....
The Ho'okipa Project will still take place and become a reality, but it will be a documentary film, not what appears to be a vacation for 21 people who enjoy playing the ukulele. All of us in the group are searching for something, needing something, looking for something and we have found the ukulele to be our vehicle to get us there.
When I attended the Aloha Music Camp for the first time in 2007 I was also searching for something, but I had no idea what I was looking for or how to find it. I even ran away from some of the things I was learning during that camp. It was scary! What I didn't know was what was coming.... My father's death, a daily battle with anxiety and depression, economic hardships and 2 failed businesses... All these things happened to me since 2007. Keola Beamer and the Aloha Music Camp have been there along the way to hold me up when I was falling fast. It is Keola Beamer, Kaliko Beamer-Trapp, Liko Puha, Uluwehi Guerrero, Herb Ohta Jr., Robyn Kenubuhl, Sam Ohu Gon III, and all the other kumu (teachers) from the many camps over the years that have given me my wings and daily help me to fly. When I feel like I am going to pass out from an anxiety attack I begin to Chant... I go back to Kapa'a in my mind and smell the ocean air and feel my feet in the kai! THIS IS WHY THIS IS PROJECT IS IMPORTANT!!!
The Ho'okipa Project is not about 21 people going on an all expenses paid vacation.... It's about changing lives and bringing people together through the AWESOME power of Aloha! With daily reports on the news of bombings and shootings, it's about time we start talking about things that bring us together not tear us apart! This is what the Aloha Music Camp does and it has changed my life. It brings people from all walks of life, all backgrounds, all viewpoints together through music and more importantly ALOHA!
I swear I will show you how! Stay tuned true believers and Shaka on!
Malama ko aloha!

Hau'oli ke aloha Po'alua! Happy Aloha Tuesday! Hau'oli nui loa. I am so happy and excited this week. I know I promised you more information on a new top secret musical project on Wednesday, but planning things has taken longer than I expected, but also things are getting more exciting as I plan. I can give a few details now and our fundraising will be starting later this week.
The project is called "The Ho'okipa Project". A recording and video project that will bring people together from around the world to share in the true spirit of aloha and the Hawaiian value of ho'okipa (hospitality). 20 of my ukulele group members will be flying with me to Kaua'i to record two songs, a music video and attend the 2018 Aloha Music Camp. We are inviting our camp friends and teachers to join us in the filming and recording and during that time we will be displaying our own western hospitality with a world famous stampede breakfast. A summit of western hospitality and Hawaiian ho'okipa. More news and how YOU can help us complete this project will follow soon...
