Pirate Jim's Kanikapila - February 9, 2016

Aloha Kākou,

Well another week has passed and it's once again time to gather together and share our love of ukulele. I look forward to Tuesday nights and I hope you do to. This week I will be with you in spirit and my beautiful wife Stanis will be leading the jam. I cannot be there with you because I am currently on the garden island of Kauaʻi attending the Aloha Music Camp. This is the 11th camp I have attended and it is where my aloha is nurtured and shaped so that I may bring it back to all of you to share and nurture your Aloha. I am busy taking Hula, Ukulele, Oli (chant) and Olelo (language) classes for the next 5 days. I will miss you tonight, but can't wait to bring back what I am learning this week and share it with you.

If you are curious about the camp then please check out the website: www.alohamusiccamp.com

Pirate Jim's Kanikapila - January 12, 2016

Aloha Kakou!

Wowzers! Another week has flown by. I can't believe it is Tuesday already. This week we are going to play some nahenahe music methinks. What does nahenahe mean? It has many meanings. Sweet, gentle, soft or tender. When we use it to describe the music coming out of our ukuleles I would stick with the sweet and gentle meaning. So let's come together once again and make some nahenahe mele tonight.

This weeks jam will be at the home of Barb Yates.

Pirate Jim's Kanikapila - January 5, 2016

Hauʻoli Makahiki Hou Kākou! Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope that you all enjoyed your new year celebrations this past weekend! I myself enjoyed the rest and I finally got lots of it. It's time to get back in the saddle now and make some sweet music together. This week our Kanikapila will be down in Douglasdale at the home of John and Cherie! Thank you for hosting again guys. Last time we were there the city was hit with a huge snowstorm, so pray for good weather methinks!

At the end of each Kanikapila we always sing Hawaii Aloha. This video by Rev Dennis Kamakahi shows the translation of the song along with pictures. The words really sink in when you see this video.

Pirate Jim's Kanikapila - December 8, 2015

Aloha kakou!

Time is moving fast!!! It's only 17 days until Christmas. Holy !?%! That translates into 3 more Kanikapilas before Christmas. One of our club members, Regan, has given us an early present. His place! Oh wait... Please let me clarify that. He is opening up his house for us to meet tonight, not giving us a free house or something. Hmnnn.... A club house?? Maybe a magical club house that can take us anywhere we want to go? We all meet there and then tell the magic club house that we want to jam in Hawaii tonight, or Mexico, maybe even Norway? We should tell the uke'n elf below to ask Santa for one for us! Anyway... Thank you Regan for opening up your home for us roving ukulele lovers!

What: Pirate Jim's Kanikapila

Pirate Jim's Kanikapila - October 27, 2015

Aloha kakou,

I was tardy last week and did not post my usual jam announcement. I apologize if I confused anyone, but I was so excited about the Blue Jays I forgot all about It. I guess I got pay back Friday night with their elimination from playoffs. Well I am back on track now!

I was very excited to be invited to play at the Ship & Anchor's Ukefest 2015 this past Saturday. It was a blast and my first time playing a 30 min set all by myself. No dancers, no back up musicians and no family members in the audience. Well you'll be happy to hear (maybe not), that I made it through and I think people enjoyed it. I have been performing for years, but not solo since I was 21. I was nervous but happy I did it. Thanks to Andrew Scott and The Ship & Anchor for the invitation. I played a few tunes from our weekly jam too!

So..... Tonight we are gonna Kanikapila like there is no tomorrow! I hope you will join us.

What: Pirate Jim's Ukulele Kanikapila

Where: Pirate Jim's Ukulele Shack - 87 Tuscany Springs Way NW

When: Tonight (Tuesday September 27, 2015) @ 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Why: Because it's a heck of a lot of fun and you don't even need you own ukulele. I have plenty extra.

How Much:  $5 for malihini (newcomers), FREE for Club Members ($50 per year)

We also have a bunch of new Islander and KoAloha ukuleles now in stock and ready for you to try out and play. Time for some early Christmas shopping methinks.

I also encourage you all to wear a costume if you like to celebrate Halloween.

See you tonight at the Shack!

Pirate Jim's Kanikapila - October 13, 2015

Thanksgiving is over for another year and now it's time to Jam!!! I would like to take one moment to talk about what I am thankful for and to wish my dad a happy birthday (he would have been 81 today). I am thankful for family, health and all the things that go along with staying upright in these strange days. The picture below of me, my wife and kids was taken at the bottom of Diamondhead on Oahu. We were there that October to lay my dad to rest in Honolulu Bay on October 13, 2012 (his birthday). Thank you dad for being at all my shows and being one of my biggest cheerleaders. Whenever I perform now it just isnʻt the same without you in the front row. Anyway.... Let's get together tonight and sing for him.

What: Pirate Jim's Kanikapila

Where: 87 Tuscany Springs Way NW

When: Tonight (October 13, 2015) - 7:30-9:00pm

How Much: $5.00 for non-members and FREE for uke club members

Why: Because we can.
